Soft ’n Sheer is a permanent backing for embroidery on lightweight knits and woven fabrics. This 235-12 roll measures 12 inches wide by 11 yards long; it is not the fusible Extra version. Sulky describes the material as lightweight, textured nonwoven nylon with resistance to stretching.[1]

Choose it when the stitched area needs support after the project leaves the hoop. Unlike a temporary topping, the backing stays behind the embroidery through washing and wearing. That makes the removal method part of the project decision: excess material is cut away rather than torn off or dissolved.
