Solvy 486-08 is a clear, lightweight water-soluble topping supplied as a 7.875-inch by 9-yard roll. Sulky recommends its use over napped fabrics such as towels to help keep loops from showing through the embroidery and to preserve the visibility of fine lettering.[1]

The important buying distinction is topping versus backing. This product addresses what happens at the surface of the fabric; choosing it does not finish the decision about support underneath the design. For a towel monogram, plan the backing, mounting method and topping as separate parts of the setup, then evaluate them together on a representative sample. Do not substitute the roll width for a machine’s embroidery field.[1]

Because removal uses water, the blank, thread and other materials must tolerate that finishing process. Check the exact directions before marking or stitching the final item.
